A new chapter for Scribehound
Scribehound Countryside is entering a new era - same team, same content, different owners
Scribehound Countryside will have a new owner from 31 July 2026, having launched in September 2023 and swiftly established a reputation as a sensible and measured voice for the countryside.
What does this mean for Scribehound?
This change of ownership marks the beginning of the next chapter in the Scribehound story. It presents an opportunity to build on the success we have had over the last three years, and to grow both our audience and our influence.
The existing writer line-up will stay, and articles will continue to be published in both written and audio form. George Browne, who has marshalled the writer line-up since Scribehound Countryside’s launch, will remain as editor.
We will continue to provide readers and subscribers with thoughtful and impactful analysis of the issues and challenges facing Britain’s landscapes, ecosystems and rural communities, tempered with natural history, humour, folklore and rural esoterica.
As well as the regular articles by your favourite rural writers and thinkers, we will make Scribehound more of a policy resource for political parties hoping to form a government after the next general election, and for the current Labour government to use.
Many of the articles and their comment sections provide good ideas for policymakers, and we will be making Scribehound available for free to politicians and civil servants at government nature agencies, including DEFRA, Natural England, the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales, NatureScot and the Northern Irish agency DAERA. Add to that the weight of the ‘constituency’ that Scribehound represents – the thousands of ordinary country people who read it and comment on the articles – it will be an essential resource for rural policymakers.
Subscriptions will remain unchanged at £5.99 a month or £70 a year. Existing website subscribers will move seamlessly to the new site, and will need take no action.
What do you have to do?
Absolutely nothing.
We'll be in touch about logging in to the new site in due course.
What happens to your details?
Scribehound Countryside is moving to new ownership, and from 31st July 2026, it will be run by Fieldsports Channel Ltd, who will continue it exactly as before. As part of that move, the information needed to keep your subscription running, your name, email and subscription details, will transfer to Fieldsports Channel Ltd, who will become responsible for looking after your data (the "data controller") from that date. They will handle your information in line with their privacy policy, which you can read here. Your subscription and everything you enjoy continues uninterrupted.
This is a change of ownership, not a sale of your data; your details move only so Scribehound can keep reaching you, and you keep all your usual rights: you can unsubscribe, ask to access your data, or ask for it to be erased at any time.
If you'd rather your data not move to Fieldsports Channel Ltd, that's completely fine. Because our free tier means an account stays active even after a paid subscription ends, the way to opt out of the transfer is to delete your account in your account section before 30 July 2026. Doing so removes your details so they won't transfer across. If you're happy to come with us, which we very much hope you are, there's nothing you need to do.
