A New Chapter in the Scribehound Countryside Story

It is now two and a bit years since we embarked on the grand adventure that is Scribehound Countryside. Back then we were just ‘Scribehound’, and Scribehound was just us. Some of you have been with us since our earliest experiments in writing about rural life; others have only just joined us on the track. Whichever camp you fall into, we’re delighted you’re here – and we hope you’re enjoying yourself as much as we are.

Since our launch in 2023, Scribehound has expanded to include Collectives covering gardening, food and most recently, motoring, with many more to follow in the coming months and years. As Scribehound the platform grows, it is important that Scribehound Countryside has a distinct identity, both from the other collectives and the platform itself. So Scribehound Countryside has a new logo. 

Scribehound Countryside is a space for anyone who believes the countryside can flourish. The brilliant rural thinkers who make up our Collective come from all manner of backgrounds and share a wide variety of perspectives, but we are all united by a shared love for the countryside – and a desire to see Britain’s landscapes, ecosystems and rural communities flourish. We might disagree on how best to achieve this, but it would be a dull world if we all agreed with each other all the time. We’re here to spark intelligent, respectful conversations about the past, present and future of the land: how it’s shaped, stewarded and lived in, and how it might look tomorrow. Think of us as a think-tank for people with muddy boots.

Our new logo says as much. A tree stands over a hedge and a cultivated field, a landscape shaped not just by nature, but by calloused hands, history and hard work. This is the countryside we’re interested in: not a romantic emptiness, but an inhabited, managed, fiercely complex place, where people and nature can thrive together. The logo reminds us of the layers beneath every story we tell.

We’re also taking this opportunity to shake things up a little. The Scribehound team have been working hard over recent months to develop a suite of new features for the platform, offering a greater variety of content formats that bring us closer together and make Scribehound Countryside even more of a conversation. This means that we’ll be able to bring you live Q&A sessions and panel discussions hosted by the creators that you can get directly involved in via the live chat. We’ll also be able to bring a wider range of voices into the Scribehound Countryside universe with interviews and book clubs.

You’ll also notice a looser publishing rhythm. You’ll still hear from the full cohort of creators each month, but some days you might get, say, an article and a livestream, and on others we may leave a gap to allow you to get outside, feel the wind in your face and the mud under your boots. 

You are part of this, too. Scribehound Countryside thrives on shared curiosity and love for the countryside. We want your questions, your stories, your lived experience, your challenges, your wisdom. We want the conversations that unfold in the comments and the ones that spill over into the pub.

The first chapter of Scribehound Countryside has been a joy. Here’s to the next one, and many more after that.
